Description of Essential Job Functions

    POSTION: Assistant Manager

    REPORTS TO: Store Manager

    Status: Non-Exempt

    Purpose of the position: Assists in managing the store and supervising its employees; may assume manager's responsibilities in manager's absence.

Major Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned.

  • Fully understand and be able to perform the job description for the position of customer service associate.
  • Assists the manager in assuring that safety procedures and accident handling procedures are followed; and in conducting safety meetings and training.
  • Helps assure all customers receive excellent customer service including quick, tactful handling of complaints.
  • Assists the manager in assuring buildings, equipment and grounds are clean and inviting; that merchandise is properly stocked, rotated and clean.
  • Complete and balance daily paperwork and deposits, neatly and accurately according to company guidelines.
  • Assists the manager in assuring all employees comply with company cleanliness, grooming and uniform policies.
  • Assists the manager in generating sales at the highest practical level.
  • Assists the manager in hiring, training and developing employees to perform their duties competently and safely; coaches and counsels employees at appropriate times; helps assure all EEOC and company policies concerning employees are followed.
  • Assists in enforcing all company standards, policies and guidelines, in addition to all state and local laws concerning the sale of tobacco, tobacco products, alcohol, pickle cards, instant lottery tickets and powerball tickets.
  • Assists the manager in monitoring cashier, vendor and customer activity to discover theft or dishonesty.
  • Assists in maintaining and reviewing store security tapes.
  • Meets personal objectives as set by the store manager.
  • Any and all other duties assigned to this particular position.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Complete all customer service associate and other required training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
